GOSC IPO convened a crisis data management session at FBAS 2026

Date: Sep 16, 2026

Recently, with support from the CODATA International Data Policy Committee, GOSC IPO co-organized a breakout session at the 6th International Forum on Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (FBAS 2026) on promoting open data for crisis response and the post-2030 SDGs agenda.

The session examined how open science and interoperable data infrastructures can facilitate disaster risk reduction, monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and informed decision-making. Discussions focused on the necessity for common frameworks to manage crisis data, the importance of localizing the SDGs, and the significance of collaborative capacity-building initiatives. The group also analyzed the role of digital technologies in promoting environmental sustainability, alongside policy instruments such as crisis-data checklists to enhance preparedness and response. Among these, the GOSC IPO presented their insights into open-science-infrastructure-driven policy research and SDG adoption, based on their regional partnership. Ultimately, the participants concurred that enhanced international collaboration, sustained investment in resilient data infrastructures, and ongoing capacity-building are vital to translating high-level principles into tangible outcomes for crisis management and the development of a sustainable future beyond 2030.
