The SDG big data platform
The SDG big data platform is a national scientific research data service centered on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its goal is to combine Big Earth Data for SDGs monitoring and forecasting, offering decision support for SDGs implementation. Currently, the platform focuses on six SDGs: SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 14: Life below Water, and SDG 15: Life on Land.
With a hyper-converged framework supported by CSTCloud, the platform integrates supercomputing, big-data cloud, data storage, and high-speed networking, offering capacities of 1,000 trillion double-precision floating-point operations per second, 50 PB of data storage, and 10,000 CPU cores for cloud computing. Self-developed programs support 10PB SDGs data management, data analysis and visualization, computation, and long-term preservation.
Furthermore, an integrated service environment for SDG applications has been developed, offering operation and control functions for the SDGSAT-1 G satellite, data-sharing management, and collaborative analysis of SDG indicators. A world-class decision-support platform for SDGs, including comprehensive analysis, visualization, and simulation, has been established.
Generally, this platform offers tailored services for SDGs research by integrating over 100 popular algorithms and tools and combining data from sources such as geography, remote sensing, ground monitoring, and social statistics. As a result, the bilingual portal features SDGs data products and cloud services, including SDGs data analysis, the SDGs Data Engine, Earth Data Miner, Decision Support, and the SDGs data repository.
The SDG Big Data Platform has adopted many innovative technologies, including unified scheduling and aggregation services for ultra-large-scale distributed computing resources, management and processing of PB-level gridded data, and interactive online analysis of Big Earth Data. These efforts will help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of progress monitoring for SDG implementation, thus supporting the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
