Prof. Wangyang, Senior Scientist of Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, was invited to Computer Network Information Center(CNIC)of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS). At 9 o’clock AM, a lecture on high performance computing relating its application about material science addressed by Prof.Wangyang held in CNIC’s conference hall, hosted by Prof.Baoping Yan. Prof. Xiangyang Huang, director of CNIC, Prof.Xuebin Chi, director of Supercomputing Center of CNIC, Prof.Wenzhuang Gui, ex-director general of Bureau of high-tech research and development of CAS, Dr. Shaowen Wang, researcher-in-residence of CNIC and the staff, almost fifty technicians and graduated students from departments concerning e-science of CNIC attended the lecture.

 Firstly, Prof.Wangyang introduced the characteristics and developments of material science and high performance computing, especially the forecast about the development of super computer in the next twenty years. And then, he discussed all kinds of applications of high performance computing applied in material science. During the lecture, many questions have been asked by attendees, for example, current research situation of CPU in Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, the prospect of mature mechanics software applied in GPU. The section of discussion lasted over one hour, and the atmosphere became pretty active and liberal for Prof.Wangyang’s vivid and penetrating answer. Many graduated students think that they got a lot on listening the lecture and expecting more reports could be held in CNIC.

Finally, as the member of International Advisory Committee of CNIC, Prof.Wangyang received the letter of appointment which awarded by Prof.Baoping Yan who stands for Director Xiangyang Huang.
