On Dec.17th, Ms. Virginia Bedford, who is the associate director of Arctic Region Supercomputing Center (ARSC),visited the Supercomputing Center of Computer Network Information Center, CAS. Prof. Huang, who is director of Computer Network Information Center, Dr. Shaowen Wang, Dr. Zhonghua Lu and others concerned from Supercomputing Center attended this meeting.
Director Huang firstly gave welcome remark and introduced the responsibility of Computer Network Information Center. Ms. Virginia introduced their high performance computing resources, and their work in oceanography and climate modeling. Correspondingly, Dr. Jin described the high performance computing work of Supercomputing Centering of CNIC. Then, they discussed some collaborations with Ms. Virginia, which include collaborations in high performance climate modeling projects, accepting exchange students and researchers, and applying for NSF funds together in the future.
The Arctic Region Supercomputing Center, located in university of Alaska, supports computations research in science and engineering focus on high latitudes and the arctic. Thus, Ms. Virginia’s visiting is very helpful for both parties to establish long-term cooperation relationship in HPC in the future. This meeting not only improves mutual understanding especially some high performance computing work in climate and oceanography, but also opens the door for oversea collaboration in the future.
