The round-table meeting for CNIC and NCSA strategic cooperation discussion was held adjacent to ACCESS09|HPC workshop closing. NCSA director Thom Dunning, NCSA executive director Danny Powell, CNIC director Huang Xiangyang, the director of CNIC supercomputing center Chi Xuebin with some other US and Chinese delegates attended this meeting.
After one hour discussion, CNIC and NCSA reached the agreement and signed Memorandum of Understanding on CNIC-NCSA strategic cooperation, which covered many HPC related fields.
The US and Chinese sides decided to start their collaboration via four aspects below.
1. Joint educational, cultural, and research activities.
2. Exchange of personnel for research, lectures, and discussions with participation in seminars and academic meetings, which attempts to boost both sides.
3. Create jointly the website or some other platform like Wiki to facilitate further communication.
4. Virtual school cooperation for HPC training.
NCSA director Thom Dunning indicated that NCSA and CNIC discovered the comman interests for both sides. He expected NCSA and CNIC would have a cordial working relationship in the near future. CNIC director Huang Xiangyang said, the cooperation with NCSA is a very important issue for CNIC Supercomputing Center, which is a good opportunity to improve development for both sides. We are confident that CNIC-NCSA cooperation will play actively an improving role for the development of the Chinese and US high performance computing.
