ACCESS2009|HPC successfully held in Beijing

September 7 2009the American-Chinese Cyberinfrastructure and E-Science workshop |HPC (ACCESS2009|HPC) is held in Beijing.ACCESS2009 is organized by the Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). 

ACCESS provides a forum for sharing cutting-edge research, education and training experiences covering all aspects of cyberinfrastructure and e-Science ranging from specific cyberinfrastructure components and capabilities to applications, industrial relations and partnerships, and user support. ACCESS aim to bring together researchers, educators, users, and practitioners in the area of cyberinfrastructure and e-Science in China and the United States of America (USA), and to foster international collaboration and cooperation in this area between the two countries. 

ACCESS2009 is the first of a series of workshops with the topical theme of High Performance Computing. All circles of experts from CNIC, NCSA, Institute of Process Engineering CAS, Institute of Software CAS, Institute of Physics CAS, Institute of Atmospheric Physics CAS, Institute of Oceanology CAS,Institute of Geology and Geophysics CAS, Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics CAS, Institute of Computing Technology CAS, Institute of Semiconductors CAS, Lenovo, BEIHANG University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology etc. together, focus on exploring and developing tangible strategies and action plans for collaborative projects and strategically important cooperative agreements that will enable and greatly enhance the interoperability of global cyberinfrastructure for resolving grand science challenges through advancing e-Science and computational science. 

Deputy Secretary of International Cooperation CAS Jinghua Cao attended the opening ceremony and made a speech to the success of the meeting and expressed warm congratulations on the development of High Performance Computing. As the USA representative, NCSA Director Thom Dunning also made a opening ceremony speech, introduced the flourish of cyberinfrastructure and e-Science technology in 21 century. CNIC director Xiangyang Huang represented the sponsor extended a warm welcome to all participants and delivered a speech to introduce CNIC in the important role of scientific research and looking forward to the future development of High Performance Computing. 

This workshop lasted 3 days, many top insiders and experts including CNIC supercomputer center director Xuebin Chi, NCSA professor Marc Snir, UIUC professor Laxmikant V.Kale ,Deputy Project Director Bill Kramer, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Lin-Wang Wang , NCSA Senior Research Scientist Shaowen Wang ,Institute of Atmospheric Physics CAS academician Qingchun Zeng contributed wonderful reports.
