On Apr. 30,Dr.Markus WIllibald Schulz from CERN,the European Organization for Nuclear Research, was invited to Computer Network Information Center(CNIC),Chinese Acedemy of Sciences(CAS).He delivered a speech named “CERN‘suse of a Grid for LHC computing”.Technicians and gradute students from departments of CNIC,including Supercomputing Center, Scientific Data Center and Collaboration Environment Research Center attended the lecture.Prof.Huang,Director of CNIC,and Dr.Jianhui Li,Director of Scientific Data Center of CNIC, presented the lecture. At the frist of the lecture,Prof.Gang Chen from the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP),CAS,gave a brief introduction about Dr. Markus for all the attendees, and then,Dr. Markus addressed his speech concerning the projects which has been engaged by CERN using Large Hadron Collider(LHC) with the method of grid computing, and the challenges of Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG).In a most warm and friendly atmosphere,Dr. Markus discussed many issues with attendees during the lecture. In the end, director Huang invited Dr. Markus to pay a visit to machinery room of CNIC and took a group photo.

The European Organization for Nuclear Research, known as CERN,is the world's largest particle physics laboratory, situated in the northwest suburbs of Geneva on the Franco-Swiss border, established in 1954. The organization has twenty European member states, and is currently the workplace of approximately 2,600 full-time employees, as well as some 7,931 scientists and engineers.CERN's main function is to provide the particle accelerators and other infrastructure needed for high-energy physics research. Numerous experiments have been constructed at CERN by international collaborations to make use of them. And It is also noted for being the birthplace of the World Wide Web.
