CNIC delegate successfully participates in the ITU-T SG2 (2017-2020 Period) Plenary in Geneva

The 2017 ITU-T SG2 (2017-2020 periods) plenary was held during 27 November to 1 December in Geneva. Attendees include 78 delegates from 34 countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia and so on; besides, there have been 5 delegates from ICANN,   EUB, ECO and ETSI. Delegates from Internet of Things Information Technology and Application Laboratory of Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences attended this meeting and successfully applied for a new work item as the technical report.

During this meeting, 44 contributions have been received and discussed under 6 questions of SG2. The liaison documents, temporary documents and contributions has been overviewed during related work program meeting, among this contributions, the technical report entitled the global view of the Internet of Things identification proposed by CNIC is agreed by SG2 to develop a new work item.

Based on the on-site FAQ and communication, all the delegates got an further understanding of the purpose, scope and significance of this technical report, and finally, the meeting come to an agreement on developing a new work item on the global view of the Internet of Things identification.
In advance of this meeting, this contribution received a heavy support of related R&D Departments of CNIC, attracted concerns and support from the Secretariat of the ITU Working Committee of MIIT, CAICT, China Telecom and NJUPT. The first successful application on the new work item of technical report to the ITU-T has increased the international influence of CNIC, and CNIC will keep on making efforts to contribute to this work item and to ITU-T.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that is responsible for issues that concern information and communication technologies. The ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) is one of the three sectors (divisions or units) of the International Telecommunication Union and it coordinates standards for telecommunications. ITU-T Study Group 2 (SG2) is responsible for the operational aspects of service provision and telecommunications management, and also the authority for the area of numbering, naming, addressing and identification of Internet of Thins (IoT).
