2016 CNIC User Conference held in Xiamen
2016 User Conference and Technical Exchange Meeting of the Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was held in Xiamen on November 3-4 with the aim of strengthening the communication and interaction with users, improving the quality of technical support and service, and promoting the use of ICT in research innovation and management. Themed on innovation-driven development and win-win cooperation, the conference attracted more than 300 user representatives from over 170 research institutions, universities, enterprises and other supporting organizations.
Opening Ceremony of 2016 CNIC User Conference
The opening ceremony was moderated by Prof. Chi Xuebin, Deputy Director General of CNIC. Welcome remarks were made by Dr. Chen Mingqi, Director of the academy’s Informatization Division, Mr. Chen Haizhang, President of Xiamen Information Industry Association, and Prof. Cai Peng, Deputy Director of CAS Institute of Urban Environment. Prof. Liao Fangyu, Director General of CNIC, made a keynote presentation on innovation-driven development and win-win cooperation. In his presentation, Prof. Liao introduced the development trends of e-science at home and abroad, emphasizing the important role of e-science in driving scientific innovation while the rapidly developing data-intensive research and large-scale collaboration have created greater demand on grid, data and computing. Prof. Liao also introduced the new structure of CNIC after the organizational optimization and recommended advanced resources of the center. Looking into the future, CNIC will spare no effort to develop China Science and Technology Cloud by integrating advanced information technologies and scientific resources based on the academy’s 13th Five Year Plan, support the smart CAS by facilitating the construction of first-class research institutions and improving the intelligent processing of research activity and management, and construct the big data center for research by promoting the integration and use of scientific data and servicing the national big data strategy.

8 invited presentations were arranged during the plenary session on November 3 covering various topics such as 5G and future network, the prospect of high performance computing during China’s 13th Five Year Plan, the new development trend of e-government, and visual analytics.
4 parallel sessions were organized on November 4 including the Workshop on High Performance Computing and Big Data, Workshop on E-Management, Workshop on New Media for Science Outreach and Workshop on Cyberinfrastructure and Cybersecurity. Participants had in-depth discussions on the development trends, latest applications and plans related to a diversity of ICT topics such as future network, cybersecurity, big data, high performance computing, new media, e-management and visualization.
