The Chinese-American Networking Symposium(CANS)
CSTNET has taken an active part in joining the Chinese-American Networking Symposium since 2000 to 2008, which servers as a great contribution to the Sino-American network technological communication and application.
The Chinese American Networking Symposium (CANS) is initiated in 1998 by the China Science and Technology Network (CSTNET), the China Education and Research Network (CERNET), the Internet 2 and the Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST), which has thus become an annual event held alternatively in the USA and China, aiming at promoting bilateral understanding and cooperation and jointly pushing future development of the Internet through academic exchange in the information network technology field.
Asia-Pacific Advanced Network (APAN)
The Asia-Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) is a non-profit international consortium in the Asia Pacific region established on June 3, 1997. It is aiming at coordinating and promoting network technology development and advance in network-based application and services; coordinating the development of an advanced networking environment for research and education communities in the Asia-Pacific region; and encouraging and promoting global cooperation in order to help to achieve the above goals. APAN is initialed by APAN-China, APAN-Japan and other international originations. APAN-China is mainly constituted by the China Science and Technology Network (CSTNET) and the China Education and Research Network (CERNET). APAN is designed to be held twice every year. After more than ten-year development, APAN has been brought great influence in Asia-Pacific region, the Europe Union and Australia, etc.
American-Chinese Cyberinfrastructure and E-Science workShop (ACCESS)
The American-Chinese Cyberinfrastructure and E-Science workShop (ACCESS) 2009 is the first of a series of worskshops that aim to bring together researchers, educators, users, and practicioners in the area of cyberinfrastructure and e-Science in China and the United States of America (USA), and to foster international collaboration and cooperation in this area between the two countries. ACCESS is organized by the Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). CNIC is the largest and most comprehensive cyberinfrastructure and e-Science center in China while NCSA has been a world leader in advancing and supporting cyberinfrastructure, and in particular high performance computing for over 20 years in the USA.
ACCESS provides a forum for sharing cutting-edge research, education and training experiences covering all aspects of cyberinfrastructure and e-Science ranging from specific cyberinfrastructure components and capabilities to applications, industrial relations and partnerships, and user support. Such a forum focuses on exploring and developing tangible strategies and action plans for collaborative projects and strategically important cooperative agreements that will enable and greatly enhance the interoperability of global cyberinfrastructure for resolving grand science challenges through advancing e-Science and computational science. ACCESS is planned to be an annual event that will be hosted in turn by CNIC and NCSA. The first year workshop will be hosted by CNIC and take place in Beijing during September 7-9, 2009. Each ACCESS event will have a topical theme, and the theme of ACCESS 2009 is High Performance Computing.
