Invited Talk: Prof. Kai Hwang, Chinese University of Hong Kong

Invited by the Advanced Network Technology Department of CNIC, Kai Hwang from Chinese University of Hong Kong delivered a talk on Fusion of HPC Clouds with 5G Edge Computing in AI and IoT Applications on August 20. 

Kai Hwang is a Presidential Chair Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. He also serves as the Chief Scientiest, Cloud Computing Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received the Ph.D. in EECS from Univ. of California, Berkeley. He has published extensively in computer, Internet and IT areas with a Google scholar citation of 18,600. An IEEE Life Fellow and CCF Foreign Council Member, Dr. Hwang received the Outstanding Achievement Award from China Computer Federation (CCF, 2005) and the Lifetime Achievement Award from IEEE CloudCom 2012 for his pioneering work in parallel computing and distributed systems. 

In this talk, Dr. Hwang addressed critical issues on the fusion of cloud/datacenters, AI chips, fog nodes, mobile devices, and intelligent robots for big-data, AIoT and cognitive applications. He will cover hardware, software, networking and intelligence integration techniques. The ultimate goal is to achieve enhanced agility in AI systems, end user mobility, global security, and scalability in public clouds and smart IoT platforms. The role of machine learning and big-data analytics is identified for edge, fog and cloud computing. The talk integrates intelligent robots, IoT devices, NB-IoT, 5G and satellite-based intelligent networks for merged AI, HPC, and cloud/IoT applications. A smart cloud construction project at CUHK-SZ is presented for intelligent manufacturing, industrial Internet, and 5G healthcare system devlopment in the greater bay area of the Peral River basin.
