Multimedia Applications for Science Outreach
The new media service team of CNIC has been developing and promoting the use of multimedia applications for science outreach in various aspects such as video technology and product development, front-end display technology and O2O with some recent examples as follows.
1. Video Technology and Product Development
By the end of 2015, the science documentary films Qinghai Lake, Internet in China and Future Electronic Highway have wrapped. Through the communication channels of the Information Office of the State Council, Qinghai Lake was expected to be broadcast by 40 TV stations in 15 countries. In 2015, 15 short science videos on frontier science were developed and released online such as Large Research Facility, Wedding of Wave and Particle and Scissors of the God. The short video Beijing Electron Positron Collider won the Excellent Short Science Video Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology. Legend of the Sea, a commercialized 4D movie co-produced with Shanghai Science and Technology Museum is being produced.

2. Use of Front-end Display Technology
In 2015, the center improved the cross-platform display of science outreach contents for better user experiences by combining the interaction design idea and HTML5 front-end display technology in the construction of websites and mobile applications. Multiple interaction effects were added to various products such as the Space Science Site for General Public, 2015 CAS Science and Technology Innovation Exhibition (online version) and Story of Kiwi (mobile application).

3. Use of O2O
In 2015, the center received support from Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission to develop the mobile navigation system of From Fish to Human with Paleozoological Museum of China and the interactive remote observation exhibits of Observing the World with Electronic Eyes with CAS Wuhan Botanical Garden, CAS Kunming Institute of Zoology and United Research Base of Qinghai Lake. The exhibition hall of energy conservation and the outdoor display screen designed for the Science Center of Haidian District successfully passed the project evaluation.
